| What Is Quantum Physics? |
|
Let’s start with Newtonian (conventional) physics; it describes the behaviour of large things. It describes the orbit of planets or even the energy change and exchange that goes on as one billiard ball hits another. Quantum physics, however, is the physics of the incredibly small. It is the physics of how electrons surround the nucleus of the atom and other subatomic actions. Both Newtonian and quantum physics explain how matter interacts with other matter, So what’s the difference? The difference is that the Newtonian laws of physics begin to diminish as we move into the smaller scales. Quantum physics tries to explain the behavior of particles that are smaller than an atom; things like electrons, protons, and neutrons.
Chances are unless you went to a very sophisticated high school, the model you were taught about atoms is wrong. Quantum physics shows us that the electrons don't orbit like planets; they are in fact blurred clouds of probabilities around the nucleus of the atom and at that point they are not even particles but waves of probability. Why weren't you told about this already? Did you study aerodynamics before your times tables? No of course not, however to understand the laws of aerodynamics you must be fluent in math and your times tables is where some of that starts. One is where you start and the other is the more complex use and understanding of what you started with. What quantum physics does is give us the statistical probability of the electron's location at any one moment. scientists can better understand the matter which makes up the universe, and the way it behaves (or misbehaves) by learning how these subatomic particles act. What’s all this got to do with you? Remember earlier we said: electrons don't orbit like planets; they are in fact blurred clouds of probabilities? Well research shows and scientifically proves that: Simply observing the events in your life can alter their outcome. You and the way you not only behave but also the way you think and feel are quite literally creating your reality. |
